Hidetoshi Nakata. The Japanese Beckham. GOD55

Hidetoshi Nakata had built the career he always dreamed of by the time he was 29 years old.

The former soccer player, often referred to as the “Japanese David Beckham” had notched three FIFA World Cup appearances, two Olympic games, and major contracts with clubs in the U.K. and Italy. He even received one of Italy’s highest orders, the Order of the Star of Italian Solidarity, honoring his near decade-long career there.

But 11 years into his soccer journey, he decided to walk away from it all.

“I was not playing football because I wanted to become famous or a millionaire, but because I loved football,” Nakata said. “But, I was feeling maybe a little bit tired from the environment and things.”

Just weeks after Japan’s 4-1 loss to Brazil in the 2006 World Cup, he announced his surprise retirement, saying that he had quietly made the decision six months before, after realizing that soccer had just become “a big business.”

With his playing days over, Nakata went in search of a second act.

It didn’t come easily.

He traveled by car to all 47 prefectures in Japan to reacquaint himself with his home country after spending much of his career abroad. He met with farmers, chefs, and other craftsmen, determined to preserve decades-old Japanese traditions. It took Nakata seven years to complete the cross country trip, but he eventually found his true passion: sake.

“Once I started understanding the culture behind sake and the industry, I started to understand the quality of sake and the people behind it, the history behind it,” Nakata said. “But at the same time, I understood the problems they have.”

Nakata’s interest in sake — an alcoholic drink made from fermented rice — coincided with declining domestic sales: Sake purchases have fallen 30 percent since 1975, according to numbers from Japan’s tax agency. While a declining population and aging drinkers were partly to blame, the sake industry was also suffering from an image problem and had been replaced by wine and cocktails among younger consumers.

So, Nakata turned passion into ambition. In 2013 he launched “N,” a high-end sake that retails for $1,000 a bottle. Next, he helped develop a sake fridge to make it easier for restaurants and sake enthusiasts to enjoy the beverage at optimum temperatures.

“So many people think (sake) is the same as wine, or that room temperature is fine,” Nakata says. “But actually, you need to keep it at minus (five) degrees. Because nobody tells you this type of information, there’s no such product like a wine cellar.”

A few years ago, Nakata launched Sakenomy, an application that translates sake labels for users and offers an extensive guide to sake makers, as well as recommendations on pairings for different cuisines.

In the process, he has become a type of cultural ambassador for his country, traveling the globe to showcase the best of Japan.

“All of those traditional markets, like craftsmen and sake makers don’t really open doors that easily to the public,” Nakata says. “If you have a great object, if you have great information, if you have great experiences or stories, it’s better to share with people.”

Nakata’s business keeps him far from the field these days, but the former soccer player says the discipline he learned as an athlete, still stays with him. He continues to train every morning, because he says it keeps him mentally sharp. He says his body is a measure of “how you are pushing your mind.”

Even as he looks to expand his sprawling sake business, Nakata insists there is no real end goal.

“I just do things I have a passion for. Soccer, craft, culture,” he says. “I’m not doing it for money or fame. That’s why, for me, there is no real success or no real fail.”

The Plan To Exit PSG by Neymar? GOD55

Neymar is refusing to accept a salary cut related to the coronavirus crisis, in a move that some say is the beginning of an exit for the Brazilian, according to a new report.

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi reportedly has asked for a 70% salary reduction, which is said to be supported by the likes of Kylian Mbappé. But others, such as Neymar, Thiago Silva, Edinson Cavani, Juan Bernat, and Ander Herrera are rumored to be opposed.

Neymar’s refusal to accept the terms, it is said, is a signal that he’s ready to pack his bags and try to force a move back to Barcelona.

The player was close to joining his old club last summer, although PSG and Barcelona failed to come to an agreement.

Bye Bye PSG? We will see about that.

Most Valuable European Football Club. Real Madrid. GOD55

Consultancy firm KPMG has produced the 2020 European Elite report, and according to them, Real Madrid — for the second consecutive year — are the most valuable football club in the world. Real Madrid is valued at €3.478 billion, which puts them ahead of Manchester United and FC Barcelona. The club’s enterprise value annual has risen by 8%.

From Real Madrid’s official website:

The report notes that Real Madrid’s position at the summit owes to the high revenues figures recorded throughout the five years that the study relates to (2016-2020), after having lifted the Champions League three times during this period, as well as the club’s improved profitability and a 41% aggregate growth in commercial revenue.

The list above are officially from KPMG. Now that's a smashing result Zidane!

Luiz Suarez's 3 Victims. GOD55

The LUIZ SUAREZ Biting History.

Here are all 3 times Luis Suarez has bitten opponents.

Luis Suarez is back at the World Cup hoping to lead Uruguay deep into the tournament, and hopefully, he will be around for their entire run this time.

During the 2014 World Cup, Luis Suarez bit Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini in one of the most shocking incidents in recent soccer history. He was ultimately banned for nine games and sent home from the tournament.

While Suarez has been one of the best players in the world during his career, he has also been the sport’s biggest villain.

Inexplicably, the 2014 World Cup was his third confirmed biting incident. Below is a look at all three.

1. While playing at Ajax in Holland in 2010, he was suspended for seven games for biting PSV Eindhoven’s Otman Bakkal on the shoulder.

2. While playing for Liverpool in 2013, he was suspended for 10 games for biting Chelsea’s Branislov Ivanovic on the arm.

3. While playing for Uruguay in the 2014 World Cup, he bit Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini. He was not punished during the game.

Well that is one weird way to punish your opponents.

Anthony Martial Has A Mission. GOD55

Anthony Martial has been given a new Manchester United challenge. Man Utd may be unable to extend Odion Ighalo's loan deal but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has faith in his No.9.

It feels like Anthony Martial has long needed to prove a point to his detractors.

Words like 'potential' and 'hype' have been thrown around in relation to the forward for many a year, but he's almost five years into his Manchester United career now. Only Wayne Rooney has contributed more goals and assists to United than Martial in the post Sir Alex Ferguson era.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has successfully re-energised Martial, helping the Frenchman rediscover his best form by reinstating him as the club's No.9 and it now looks like the striker is here to stay.

Solskjaer's decision to give Martial the centre-forward role back - and the shirt number to go with it - was not just designed as a confidence-booster. Technically and tactically it has worked too, with Martial on course for his best United season goals-wise before coronavirus hit. Martial and Marcus Rashford were dovetailing beautifully, both scoring more goals than ever before.

The statistics reflect the fact that Martial is producing better results than ever. He has averaged a goal or assist every 115 minutes across the Premier League, FA Cup and Europa League so far this season, simply because he is taking more shots from inside the box. Bruno Fernandes' January arrival then improved the quality of service Martial was getting from his midfield. It's no surprise that he's thriving.

As Solskjaer said of Martial when his form was dipping a touch: "That's when you see the real player. That's when they have to go the extra mile, sacrifice you body for blocks or to sacrifice a broken nose to score a goal."

Martial responded.

Another January addition may also have helped spur Martial on to new levels, however, with Odion Ighalo providing good competition for the centre-forward spot. More often than not, Solskjaer used Ighalo as a Martial replacement, with Rashford unavailable due to a back injury and Mason Greenwood playing most of his football on the right flank.

No More Injuries For Tottenham. GOD55

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has told Sky Sports all of his players have recovered from injury, but everybody will struggle to play to their maximum due to the lack of match time.

Before the coronavirus pandemic halted football, Mourinho's Spurs had a number of injury issues, including Harry Kane's long-term hamstring injury, Heung-Min Son's arm injury, plus absences for Steven Bergwijn and Moussa Sissoko.

Mourinho was forced to field depleted sides in February and March due to the injury problems, resulting in them being knocked out of the FA Cup and Champions League.

A start date for the Premier League is still to be decided, and players are yet to return to full-contact training, but Mourinho says his players have recovered from their injuries, though warned that is very different to having full match fitness.

Speaking with Sky Sports' Geoff Shreeves for The Football Show, Mourinho said: "I cannot say in this moment they are ready to play because one thing is to recover from an injury, and another is to be ready to play football.

"In Harry's case, I think for about five months he hasn't played, but all of them are not injured any more. They are training, and training is what it is at the moment, training has a lot of limitations. We cannot compete, we cannot do one versus one, we have to keep a certain distance, we cannot compete.

"Harry Kane, Son, Bergwijn, Sissoko, all of them are fine. I think with a couple of weeks of normal training, when the authorities tell us we can train normally I think in a couple of weeks, the boys will be ready to play, of course not in the maximum of their potential, I think nobody can do that in this moment.

"For us, of course, it is a great feeling, because we finished the period with that defeat at Leipzig, where we were really, really in trouble to have 11 players, including attacking players, and in this moment (Erik) Lamela, Son, Dele (Alli), Harry Kane, Bergwijn, everybody is fit now.

"I Do Not Need Axxholes In My Team" Ole. GOD55

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said he would rather have "a hole in the squad than an a*******" after ridding his team of "bad apples".

The United boss is plotting his next move in the transfer market, with both Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish high on his list of targets ahead of the summer window.

United have had to redraw their transfer plans in response to the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic, and are now reluctant to pay fees above £60-70m in the coming months.

That could mean they are forced to look elsewhere for value for money, with James Maddison, Jude Bellingham and a striker also on Solskjaer's wanted list.

One thing is for certain: they are determined to stay competitive in the market, and Solskjaer will be guided by errors made by the club in the past.

The United boss, who offloaded Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez six months after his arrival, has offered an insight into the squad he discovered upon arrival at Old Trafford in late 2018, and how it will inform his decision-making going forward.

"I'd rather have a hole in the squad than an a*******," he told fanzine United We Stand. "Personality is so important. We're a team in a team environment.

"You want players to have a bit of ego and edge but they have to be able to adapt. In March 2019, players were physically tired, mentally tired and we had injuries. The players started with negative thinking, whereas now it's positive thinking.

"There were other things I didn't like last year, some personal agendas which couldn't be sorted out until the summer. There will always be players who want to play more in football, but if a team is to be successful then players have to be available at different times. I feel in this group we don't have one bad apple."

Merseyside Can. Red Devils Can't. GOD55

Emre Can has intimated that Liverpool remain in his heart, despite rejecting the chance to stay at Anfield two years ago.

The 26-year-old midfielder spent four years with the Reds but left to join Juventus as a Bosman in the summer of 2018.

Can was a big player for Liverpool, evident by the fact that manager Jurgen Klopp offered him a contract to stay on Merseyside.

But the Germany international, who is now with Borussia Dortmund following a £22 million switch, elected to join the Italian champions on a free transfer.

The former Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen powerhouse was heavily linked with a January move to Manchester United, arguably Liverpool’s biggest rivals.

But Can has told Sport Bild that his ‘heart wouldn’t allow it’ due to his association with Klopp’s side, insisting that he’d never play for the Red Devils.

He said: “I would never play for United because of my time at Liverpool. My heart would not allow it. The rivalry between those clubs is huge.”

Even though some Liverpool fans weren’t happy with Can for his decision to leave, they will definitely respect his comments here.

Despite leaving, the club clearly left a big mark on him and the fact that he’d refuse to join their enemy is testament to that.

Angelino Don't Want To Be Back To Man City. GOD55

While speaking to Eurosport, Angelino hinted that he would prefer to stay at RB Leipzig than return to Manchester City.

The Manchester City left-back is currently on loan with Bundesliga side Leipzig following a loan move from the Premier League side in January. Angelino has made an instant impact since arriving in Germany, scoring one goal and assisting twice from eight games across all competitions before play stopped due to the coronavirus crisis.

The 23-year-old Spaniard was re-signed by Manchester City just last summer after spending a year at PSV Eindhoven. However, Angelino has spent just six months on his return to the Etihad before he was once again offloaded in January in a bid to get more regular action.

Despite proving himself at the highest level in Holland, Angelino once again found himself warming the benches after City signed him last summer. The presence of Benjamin Mendy and Oleksandr Zinchenko in the City set-up saw Angelino share the left-back duties along with the other two this season.

Among the three, Angelino came last in the pecking order under boss Pep Guardiola, featuring just six times in the Premier League this term. With game time getting increasingly limited at the Etihad despite just signing for them a few months back, Angelino saw himself being offloaded to Leipzig during the winter transfer window.

However, things seemed to have changed a little bit for Angelino since arriving in Germany, with the left-back even playing a crucial role in Leipzig’s Champions League win over last year’s runners-up Tottenham Hotspur.

The Spaniard finally seems to be enjoying his football, where he has become a regular presence unlike at City. Moreover, with first-choice left-back Mendy making a return into the side following a series of injuries, and Zinchenko waiting in line, Angelino’s chances of getting regular time look increasingly less in the coming days.

Hence, it would be wise of City to let go of their unwanted man, who does not seem to be in their manager’s plans at the moment.

Manchester City already have two left-backs in their side – one of the primary reasons why Angelino was sent on loan to Leipzig in January. Hence, it is clear that he is surplus to requirements at the Etihad. Manchester City could save themselves some money and time by selling him permanently than keeping him in the side.

FC Seoul Sex Dolls. GOD55

South Korean club FC Seoul could be fined or docked a minimum of five points for using sex dolls instead of mannequins to fill empty seats during a league match on Sunday.

The K-League has said its disciplinary committee will look into the incident, Yonhap news agency reported.

The club placed the dolls, some of which were dressed in the team's colours while others held placards supporting the side, in the stands to make up for the absence of fans due to Covid-19 restrictions.

However, viewers watching on television quickly pointed out that they looked more like sex dolls than mannequins and that some of them were holding placards bearing the name of an adult toy manufacturer.

Seoul, who beat Gwangju 1-0, could be docked a minimum of five points or face a fine of at least five million won ($4,073.9), Yonhap said.

The club apologised on Monday, saying they had failed to check the consignment sent by the supplier and that they were not aware the dolls were "adult products".

“We would like to apologise to the fans,” FC Seoul said in a statement on Instagram. “We are deeply sorry about the mannequins that were seated during the May 17, 2020 match.

"However, we would like to clarify that while these mannequins have been made to look and feel like real humans, they are not for sexual use — as confirmed by the manufacturer.

"We had them supplied by a company... which claimed they are clothing mannequins. We double- [and] triple-checked that they are not for sexual use."

Young Full Of Hair. GOD55

Inter Milan star Ashley Young looked almost unrecognisable as he returned to Inter Milan training with a full head of hair.

Young, who moved to Inter from Manchester United in January, like most, has had to make do without a trim for the past couple of months due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The former England international had been in lockdown since March with Italy one of the worst-affected countries in Europe, but measures are now being slowly relaxed.

Italy Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte announced that from Monday, shops, salons, hairdressers, pubs, restaurants and museums could re-open while Serie A clubs were given the green light to return to training in small groups.

Despite barbers opening up again, Young clearly had no time to nip to one for a tidy up before training on Monday as he showed off his new - and very different - look.

Top-flight clubs up and down the country returned to the training pitch at the start of this week despite Parma confirming that two of their players had tested positive for the virus.

The Italian government laid out a protocol that an entire squad must go into a 15-day quarantine if one player tests positive for coronavirus, however clubs and the Players' Association rejected these rules.

There is still some ambiguity around when Serie A will be able to return to action, though there are hopes matches can resume behind closed doors next month.

The Bundesliga in Germany is the only major league in Europe to have got back up and running again.

Outcast Jovic Given 2nd Chance. GOD55

Real Madrid will look to Luka Jovic for goals next season, according to sources in Spain.

Los Blancos were previously thought to be targeting a move for prolific Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Haaland, but their interest in the Norwegian has subsided.

The 19-year-old has scored 41 goals in total for RB Salzburg and Dortmund this term, and the Bundesliga will be determined to hold onto their most valuable asset.

Cadena Cope report Madrid have now turned their attention towards getting the best out of Jovic.

The Serbian has been ostracised from Zinedine Zidane's squad this term, making just four league starts since his £62million transfer from EIntracht Frankfurt last summer.

The 22-year-old has registered two goals and two assists this season, struggling to adapt to life at the Bernabeu.

But Jovic is capable of becoming one of the most potent strikers in La Liga, having scored 27 goals in 48 matches at Frankfurt last season.

He has been unable to dislodge Karim Benzema from the Madrid starting XI, but may well be given an opportunity over the coming months.

The Frenchman has been diagnosed with an extra-articular fracture in the calcaneus bone of the right foot and will likely be sidelined for three months.

Borussia Dortmund vs Shalke. It's ON! GOD55

FOOTBALL  IS  BACK!!

After a two-month absence, we’re absolutely buzzing to bring you live commentary of Borussia Dortmund vs Schalke as the Bundesliga returns on Saturday.

With some of the world’s most gifted young players on show and a bitterness between both clubs, ‘the mother of all derbies’ in Germany should not disappoint, even if it is behind closed doors.

For the hosts Dortmund, Marco Reus is still sidelined with a thigh injury he picked up before the coronavirus pandemic caused the season to be halted.

This is likely to mean Lucien Favre will play Thorgan Hazard, Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland in a front three.

Even without Reus, it is a potent attack. Haaland has been sensational since signing from Red Bull Salzburg with 12 goals in 11 total appearances.

Sancho can claim to be one of the best players in the Bundesliga this season with 14 goals and 15 assists to his name.

Hazard himself has five goals and 10 assists from 24 league appearances.

In midfield, Emre Can and Axel Witsel will not be part of the squad due to injury.

Dortmund’s opponents also have their own injury problems and will have three players missing for Saturday’s match.

Manager David Wagner said: “A week ago, Ozan Kabak trained normally but he will not be called on. We want to give him another week. The only ones who don’t train with the group are Omar Mascarell and Benjamin Stambouli.”

WIth a few injury troubles, Dortmund revert to a back three with Mats Hummels, Manuel Akanji and Lukasz Piszczek in front of Roman Burki.

Raphael Guerreiro and Achraf Hakmi would be pushed on as the wing backs with Julian Brandt and Thomas Delaney in the central midfield roles.

Everton fans will recognise Jonjoe Kenny at right-back, who is currently on loan from the Merseyside club.

Kenny has never lost a derby match he’s played in so boss Wagner will no doubt be hoping some of that good fortune will carry over to the weekend’s match.

Woof Woof Be The Guard For Stars. GOD55

A host of Premier League stars are investing in fierce guard dogs after Dele Alli had his house burgled.

The Tottenham star was held at knife-point and had £350,000 worth of watches stolen.

It has led to top flight players buying guard dogs from security firms as a precation.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is one of those and posted pictures online, as did team-mate Jesse Lingard, of dogs from Leicestershire’s Chaperone K9.

Its breeds, which are predominantly German and Belgian Shepherds, sell for £15,000.

A source told The Sun : “All players are worried by this. Who wants to get robbed at home? It’s awful whoever you are.

“The players talk to each other directly or through little cliques.

“They get a lot of attention when out, and their home is a place to chill. But people are now breaking in and thinking ‘This ( coronavirus lockdown) is a good time to get him because of what he has got there’.”

Wan-Bissaka's Manchester United colleague Paul Pogba, Alli's team-mate Hugo Lloris and rap star Stormzy are also customers of Chaperone K9.

Top flight stars are planning to stop parading certain items on social media in light of recent events.

And Harry Kane has said he has reached out to Tottenham team-mate Alli.

"I text him the day after it happened just to see how he was," he told Sky Sports.

"As normal I think he was a bit in shock and a bit angry about the situation but thankfully no one has hurt, no family was hurt, during the process, which is the main thing really.

"I think he's Okay, a little bit shaken up, but I guess he's getting on with it."

Toothpaste Makes Ausburg Coach Miss First Game. GOD55

Augsburg coach Heiko Herrlich will miss his team's first game when the Bundesliga resumes on Saturday because he broke quarantine rules to buy toiletries.

Herrlich apologized on Thursday evening and ruled himself out of the game, his first in charge of the club.

Bundesliga rules mandate a seven-day quarantine for players and staff before the league resumes after a two-month halt due to the coronavirus pandemic. Teams are spending the time in hotels and in closed training sessions.

"We're in quarantine in the hotel and aren't really supposed to go out. However there are situations which just require it," Herrlich told a news conference earlier in the day. "I had no toothpaste, it was running out, and no more skin cream, and then I went in my training uniform to a supermarket nearby."

Herrlich said his shopping trip didn't go smoothly. First, he forgot his face mask in the hotel room and went back for it, and then had to ask a cashier to change a €20 bill into coins so he could pay the deposit on a shopping cart. He then forgot the cart and went back to collect it. Many shops in Germany require customers to use carts to promote social distancing.

"In this situation, I have not lived up to my position as a role model to my team and to the public," Herrlich said in a statement on the club website hours later.

The game against Wolfsburg was to be Herrlich's first game in charge of 14th-place Augsburg. He was appointed in March, but had yet to oversee a game because the league was suspended amid the pandemic.

Augsburg said Herrlich will take charge of training again only after twice testing negative for the coronavirus.

It's not the first time questions have been raised about the league's quarantine requirements. Borussia Monchengladbach earlier told German TV that the club was spending six days under quarantine, rather than seven, because their hotel was open from only Monday ahead of a game Saturday away at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Also on Thursday, it was confirmed that Bundesliga clubs will be allowed to use five substitutions per game when the season resumes.

The clubs in the top two German divisions decided on Thursday to accept the temporary rule change allowed last week by the International Football Association Board.

The change is meant to reduce the workload on players as leagues pack their schedules following a two-month suspension. Teams can make substitutions only at three breaks in the game, including at half-time, and the league recommends making only two substitutions at once.

The German Football League has also relaxed its stance on finishing the season by June 30, when some players' contracts expire. Games could continue into July if the alternative is leaving the season unfinished at the end of June, it said in a statement.

Some games could be moved to neutral venues if they can't be played at the original stadium because of infection risks locally, the league said.

It delayed a decision on how to decide final standings if the season can't be finished.

Ronaldinho to Manchester United? GOD55

Paul Scholes believes Manchester United were ready to announce the signing of Ronaldinho and had picked out his shirt number before his transfer to Old Trafford collapsed.

United had sold David Beckham to Real Madrid in the summer of 2003 and the Brazilian was set to join the Reds as his replacement after emerging as one of the world's most exciting forwards during his time at Paris Saint-Germain.

Instead, Ronaldinho joined Barcelona for £25million and went on to lift two Spanish titles and one Champions League trophy with the La Liga giants before departing for AC Milan.

Scholes believes Sir Alex Ferguson had convinced the iconic playmaker to move to England with United ready to announce his move from France.

"I remember two or three that were possibly coming," he told BBC. "I think the one that stands out is Ronaldinho.

"I can't remember what year it was but I really think the manager got him.

"He was away on pre-season and we were as a close as announcing him and giving him a number but I think he ended up changing his mind at the last minute and signing for Barcelona.

"It's strange really because we played Barcelona on that pre-season tour.

"We were all excited - Ronaldinho, what a player! I think he was coming from PSG at the time and we were all going to get to play with him and he's going to bring something special.

"Almost like what Eric Cantona brought to the team then three days later, we're playing against him and all trying to kick him because he didn't sign for us.

"It was disappointing but I was lucky enough to play with some great players and he'd have just been another unbelievable player I'd had played with but it just never happened."
